Ultrastructures of aedeagus and spermatheca of two species of the subgenus Chaetocnema (Hortensoides) Özdikmen, 2021 (Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini) by Scanning Electron Microscope
Abstract : The paper presents unknown ultrastructures of aedeagus and spermatheca of Chaetocnema arenacea (Allard, 1860) and Chaetocnema aridula (Gyllenhal, 1827) which is two of the species of the subgenus Chaetocnema (Hortensoides) Özdikmen, 2021 are studied and figured under both stereo microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope from Turkey for the first time. The studied specimens were collected from Çankırı and Kayseri provinces in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. Aedeagi and spermathecae so far were studied on the basis of only stereo microscopic studies within the genus Chaetocnema Stephens. Until now, there is only one ultrastructural study with SEM on male and female genitalia of Chaetocnema arida in the subgenus Chaetocnema (Hortensoides) Özdikmen, 2021, therefore, the present study is the first for these two species mentioned above. In accordance with this, to reveal and to obtain new diagnostic characters with ultrastructural and detailed investigations of aedeagus and spermatheca of the species Chaetocnema arenacea (Allard, 1860) and Chaetocnema aridula (Gyllenhal, 1827) are basically aimed with this study. It is revealed new diagnostic characters for both the aedeagus and spermatheca by investigations on ultrastructural morphologies in SEM.
