Studies on genus Spinosuncus Chen, Zhang & Li, 2018 (Lepidoptera: Crambidae: Spilomelinae) from Jammu & Kashmir, India

Abstract : The genus Spinosuncus Chen, Zhang & Li referable to subfamily Spilomelinae of family Crambidae is distinguished by its unique wing and genitalic characteristics segregating it from Pseudopagyda Slamka. The present study reports Spinosuncus aureolalis (Lederer, 1863) from Jammu & Kashmir for the first time. The diagnostic examination revealed the sclerotized uncus, the fin-shaped setae of costa and inflated sacculus in males, and long and slen¬der ductus bursae in females, confirming its placement under genus Spinosuncus. This new record extends the known distribution of the genus to the northwestern Himalaya and advances our knowledge of its taxonomy in India.
