Marine invertebrates of the intertidal zone and physico-chemical parameters of water at three coastal area of Gujarat
Abstract : The marine ecosystem provides a range of habitats, which in turn fosters a high level of species diversity. The Present study investigated the diversity of marine Invertebrates in the rocky intertidal zone of three coastal area, Kathiawar peninsula, Gujarat. Survey was carried out from 3 different sites During December 2024 to March 2025. During the study, all the study sites were surveyed regularly on monthly Basis during the lowest low tide period. During the Examination, the encountered fauna was carefully observed along the coast using a Quadrat method and Visual encounter method and extensive photography was carried out. This study demonstrates 70 species of intertidal invertebrates at coastal area of Kathiawar peninsula. The highest Diversity was observed in the phylum Mollusca (40 species), followed by phylum Arthropoda (11 Species), Coelenterata (13 species), Porifera (4 species), Annelida (2 species). Abiotic parameters (salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, TSS, TDS and BOD) were also recorded during sampling. This study highlights the importance of protecting the diverse marine habitats and emphasizes the need for further research on the ecology and conservation of the region’s unique Marine biodiversity. This study highlights the significance of protecting the various marine ecosystems in Kathiawar peninsula and stresses the necessity for additional research on the area’s ecology and the conservation of its distinct marine biodiversity.
