Birds of College Life: A study of avian diversity in Basirhat College Campus & its near surroundings, West Bengal, India
Abstract : Ecosystems are significantly impacted by birds. Birds assist all four types of ecological services: providing, regulating, cultural, and sustaining. Birds are scavengers, pollinators, predators, nutrient cyclers, seed dispersers, pests, ecosystem engineers, and many more. Indian birds are divided into 113 families and 1332 species. On the campus of Basirhat College, 68 bird species from 35 families were identified. By documenting the diversity of avian species, this checklist not only establishes a vital baseline for further research but also emphasizes the importance of conservation efforts and education to promote coexistence.
