Anatomical regions where Eimeria species parasitizing domestic chickens are located in different regions of Sadarak district and their age-dependent distribution dynamics
Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate the age-related distribution characteristics of Eimeria species based on fecal samples of domestic chickens (0-3 months, 4-7 months and over 7 months age groups) living in Sadarak district of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic between 2021-2024 and to investigate the intestinal pathogenesis caused by them. Microscopic examination of 228 samples revealed E. tenella, E. maxima, E. acervulina, E. praecox, E. mitis, E. necatrix and E. brunetti species. The highest prevalence and density was observed in young chickens aged 0-3 months with incompletely developed immune systems. Furthermore, the lesions and tissue damages caused by the parasites in the intestine reveal the pathogenesis of the infection. The findings emphasize the importance of developing age-specific preventive strategies for the control of parasitic diseases in the light of the dynamics and pathogenesis of age-related infection.
