A mini review on biomedical perspectives of herbal honey with special reference to cancer: From traditional wisdom to modern science
Abstract : Herbal honey, a natural product enriched with phytoconstituents through the integration of medicinal plant sources, has long been valued in traditional medicine for its therapeutic properties. Recent biomedical research has increasingly validated its multifaceted potential, particularly in the context of cancer prevention and management. Honey is known to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory effects, while the infusion of bioactive herbal compounds further enhances its pharmacological profile. With growing evidence from in vitro, in vivo, and limited clinical studies, herbal honey demonstrates promising anticancer mechanisms, including inhibition of tumor cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis, modulation of signaling pathways, and protection against oxidative stress. This convergence of traditional wisdom and modern science highlights herbal honey as a novel nutraceutical and adjuvant therapy in oncology. However, systematic investigations, standardized formulations, and clinical validations remain essential to establish its efficacy and safety in cancer therapeutics.
