A contribution to features of blood cells of Myotis blythii (Mammalia: Chiroptera) in Turkey
Abstract :This study was based on detecting some features of erythrocyte and leukocyte cells of 10 Myotis blythii samples (5 ♀♀, 5 ♂♂) collected from Kırıkkale and Hatay Provinces between July 2012 and December 2013. Bats were caught with a gloved hand or an aerial net, and animals whose blood was taken in the laboratory were then released into their habitats. The blood taken from the veins in the upper arm or tail membrane of each animal with a special injection needle was put into heparinized hematocrit capillary tubes. Blood smears were prepared from the blood sample, and the mean diameter was measured as 5.69 µm in erythrocyte, 8.89 µm in lymphocytes, 10.18 µm in monocytes, and 7.62 µm in neutrophils. In addition, the shapes of erythrocyte and leukocyte cells were photographed.
